Welcome to MIHE…
Our Story:
"Continuing the Mission to Preach, Teach, and Heal"
Modawa Institute of Higher Education was established in 2024 to continue a mission that began in 1891, when Anglican missionaries arrived in Dogura to share the Gospel and serve the community through education and healthcare.
A lasting symbol of this mission is the Modawa tree—a New Guinea Rosewood post from the first church that took root and grew, representing resilience and growth. This tree inspired the name of the Institute.
Building on the foundations of Newton Theological College and St Margaret’s School of Nursing, Modawa Institute unites
these schools under one institution to meet national higher education standards. We are proudly registered with DHERST under Papua New Guinea’s Higher Education (General Provisions) Act 2014.
With the launch of the David Hand School of Teaching in 2025, Modawa now offers programs in Theology, Nursing, and Education—preparing leaders to preach, teach, and heal in communities across Papua New Guinea.
